Pups... of the non-canine variety

Pups... of the non-canine variety

The plants at the farm are thriving, so much so that we have now transplanted in excess of 4000 pups collected from agave planted during 2020.

Pups of varying sizes from plants in the Shed block were cut from the parent plant, sterilised and allowed to 'harden' for a few weeks before being transplanted directly into beds (below).

There are five sizes of pups with stem diameter of 10 mm, 15 mm, 20 mm, 25 mm and 40+ mm.

The most recent trial block of agave pups is not only assessing the performance of pups of different sizes but also tracking pups harvested from individual plants with different characteristics eg. superior growth rates or bulk pup producer.

The performance of these will be tracked over time to add to our understanding of these unique, interesting and often confounding plants.
